Sara’s Strength: A Journey of Transformation at 70
Meet Sara. She’s a little shy but gave me the okay to share her story because she wants the world to know about her experience. What happened to Sara over the last few months is nothing short of inspiring, and it’s a reminder that it’s never too late to transform your health and life.
Sara came to us last September. At 70 years old, she wasn’t someone you might picture thriving in a strength-training gym. She had been doing Pilates 4-5 times a week but wasn’t getting the results she hoped for. When she first walked through our doors, the best word to describe her was frail. She walked slightly stooped over and was unsteady on her feet. During her first sessions, her coach held her arm to ensure she wouldn’t lose her balance and even walked her to and from her car due to her stiff and limited mobility.
Her sessions started small: 2-3 thirty-minute workouts per week. In those early days, Sara had to take frequent, sometimes prolonged, breaks to get through each session. She felt weak, lightheaded, and dizzy during many of the exercises. Her movements were limited to bodyweight exercises or what she called her “Barbie dumbbells.” She even needed assistance getting on and off the rower.
But despite the obvious challenges, Sara persisted. She kept showing up, week after week, determined to change.
Fast forward to today—just four months later—and Sara is a completely different person. She’s left her Pilates studio behind and is now training with us five days a week for one-hour sessions. Every single day, she’s making incredible progress.
Gone are the prolonged breaks and lightheadedness. Sara is reaching for heavier dumbbells and kettlebells with confidence. She’s walking tall and proud, completely upright. Last week, she rowed 4,000 meters with minimal effort. She’s doing weighted squats, sit-ups, and Russian twists, and her farmers carries get stronger and longer every week. She can do planks and has ditched her cane. Her mobility has vastly improved, and she’s even losing the “tire” around her midsection, as she calls it. She has gone from a size 14 to an 8! The changes don’t end with her physical transformation either. She says “I have been reincarnated!” She is happier and more social in her daily life. She says she used to sit in a corner and now she is not afraid to get out there socially. She used to feel “disabled” from being inactive. The mental shift she has experienced has been life-changing. She goes as far as saying we “saved her life.” Truly, her story brings me to tears of joy.
Sara now shares a piece of advice with anyone who will listen: “Don’t wait until you’re 70 to do this.”
Sara’s story is proof that no matter where you’re starting from or what stage of life you’re in, strength training is the single most important thing you can do for your present and future health. You’ve heard the saying: “Use it or lose it.” It couldn’t be more true.
Take a moment to think about it: If you don’t take action now, where will you be in a year? Five years? Ten years?
Sara’s journey is inspiring, but it’s not unique. Every day, people of all ages and abilities walk through our doors ready to change their lives. You can, too.
Don’t wait another day. The best time to take control of your health is now. Book a consultation with us today, and let’s write your story together.
